What a find ! I was attending a weekend Music Festival in Lisdoonvarna and wanted good stand-alone accommodation within easy walking distance of the town. Rooska Gate House fitted the bill perfectly. I got a really warm welcome from Frank and Rita and a detailed introduction to their excellent small cottage at the rear of their own house. It was sparkling clean, well furnished throughout, exactly as described and with all the little touches anyone could want. Exactly what I had been looking for and looking forward to returning nest year :)
William, Northern Ireland, Feb 2018
Rita-franks's cottage was lovely. Beautiful space and very comfortable beds. Close to shops and nice sights. We had a great stay and would come again.
Rita-franks's huisje was heerlijk. Mooie ruimte en hele comfortabele bedden. Dicht bij winkeltjes en leuke bezienswaardigheden. We hadden een prima verblijf en zouden zo weer komen.
Marjan, Netherlands, Feb 2018
Homely, cleanly, comfortable and well equipped cottage close to the centre of town. Located in secure, peaceful neighborhood. The cottage is well lay out for convenience and perfectly comfortable if one chooses to spend the day inside. Great space, feels like the country.

Cherry, Ireland, Jan 2018
Lovely people. Very helpful and gave some good advice about where to go and what to do. Location is ideal for traveling to the many historical , social and fun locations on the coast. We both really enjoyed the time here, highly recommend.
Adam, Ireland, Jan 2018
Rita and Frank are wonderful! While we only stayed one night as we were driving throughout Ireland, our stay was absolutely perfect and they could not have been more hospitable. Rita baked delicious scones and Frank gave us lots of tips about where to spend our evening, providing us with taxi services to call. Also a very comfortable guest house, great shower, and location. Would definitely stay again!
Madeline, IL USA, Dec 2017
Loved our stay here. Hot showers and one of the best beds I've ever slept in. Close to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren and a great place to stay to see Western Ireland.
Meinertj, MO USA, Dec 2017
The place is perfect for a comfortable stay! Small kitchen, comfortable bed and it gets toasty warm inside! Frank and Rita are amazing, kind and thoughtful people who will make sure your stay is the best it can be! Everything you need is close, stores , pubs and sights!

Bed was extremely comfortable, you'll get everything you need in the house. Located just 10m from Cliff of Moher. Would definitely come back in the future!
Cy, Malaysia, Nov 2017
Rita Rita Rita......should go for no other reason than meeting (hanging out) with Rita! Our group of 4 stopped in the quaint town of Lisdoonvarna as a hub for touring the Cliffs of Mohr and The Burren. Rita’s cottage was well appointed (and fresh scones!!!) and extremely comfortable. Everything we needed for our stay was provided. Easy 5 minute walk into Lisdoonvarna, a visit to Roadside Tavern is an absolute must. Highly recommend......enjoy.
David, CA USA, Oct 2017
The place was super tidy and easy to find. Rita was very helpful and gave us tips of places to visit and where to get food/snacks. The Tavern pub was really nice, the live music was awesome. They have a lot of fish so if you like fish then it’s perfect! I loved the set up of Rita and Franks place, parking was super close. She made us fresh scones, which were delicious! A good perk was the WiFi was very good! When we arrived the weather was a little crazy so we had to stay inside so I’d suggest to have things to entertain yourself like card games or a tablet etc. Overall it was awesome and we’d definitly stay again!
Sergio, CO USA, Oct 2017
Simply the best Hosts ever!
Sandra, Ireland, Oct 2017
For a stay in a really friendly Irish village and close to the tourist attractions and amenities, you have to be at Rita & Frank. They are very hospitable and helpful. The house also met our expectations. It is quiet and within 15 minutes you are at the most important highlights of Ireland. As far as I am concerned a must.
Bas, Netherlands, Oct 2017
Frank & Rita's place was close enough but also far enough away from the Matchmaking festivities in downtown Lisdoonvarna. Rita gave us a very warm welcome and offered a tour and explanation of the guesthouse. Both Rita & Frank were knowledgeable about the area and helpful in discussing our activities and offering transportation suggestions and options. The guesthouse was perfect for us in every way. The beds were comfy, the bathroom spacious & clean, and the homemade scones were delicious! Would definitely return for another stay.
Karen, CA USA, Sep 2017
Rita and Frank are absolutely wonderful hosts. Rita even made us scones for when we arrived and put flowers on the table. We were so touched. They were both very friendly and helpful, but left us to our own devices most of the time i.e. they were not intrusive, even though they live next door. The cottage was immaculate, with a lovely powerful shower, comfy beds, cooker, microwave, iron. It was comfy, spacious and well-decorated. A really nice place to stay. It was also very peaceful. The walk into Lisdoornvarna for shops, cafes pubs etc only took about 5 or 10 minutes. Before we left we had a lovely chat with Rita and Frank and I could have spent all day talking to them they are such lovely, genuine, interesting people. Thanks Rita and Frank.
Eve and Thalia, Wales, Sep 2017
Great location near the cliffs of Moher. Great pub recommendation!
Surbhi, England, Aug 2017
The location was fabulous for our family...within walking distance to a fabulous pub with live music and excellent food.
Rick, CT USA, Aug 2017
Hello We had a great night at Rita and Franck. We were 5. The apartment was big enough. We enjoyed the scones and the cream tea on arrival A short walk to a pub and restaurant walking up to the city center Not far from Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher so strategically located as a base.
Corinne, France, Aug 2017
Really nice place to stay. Rita and Frank are very helpful, they prepared everything for our arrival just as you could wish and gave good advice regarding places to eat.
Manfred, Austria, Aug 2017
We approach from the wrong end and thought we were far from everything... we were wrong! Turned the other way and end up slap bang in the middle of Lusdoonvarna. GREAT little gem of a town.
Neil, South Africa, Aug 2017
We had a lovely stay at Frank and Rita's gatehouse. It was cozy and a short walk to the center of Lisdoonvarna. Very comfortable beds and the place was spotlessly clean. A great spot to have a base when exploring the Burren area. We'd definitely recommend it to families.
Sarah, Switzerland, Jul 2017
Amazing place to rest up after a day exploring the Cliffs of Moher. Frank and Rita's place is extremely homely and has by far the best beds and bedding I have ever slept on. Walking distance to a lively town centre and still secluded enough to experience a country escape.. Fresh scones waiting on the table was yet another pleasant surprise. 100% recommend this place.
Tom, England, Jul 2017
We loved our stay and we're very comfortable. The wifi worked well, once we figured out how to reset it, and we were able to stream Netflix. Check in was easy and comfortable. The house was easy to find. The three of us had three towels which was fine, but minimalist. The bed was covered in perfume which my husband was unfortunately allergic to, so that was the only downside to the whole time in Lisdoonvarna for us. We had a great meal and tasty beer at the local brewery's restaurant.
Erica & Tom, OR USA, Jul 2017
Great place near Doolin and the cliffs of Moher. There were some great pubs near by with music. The cottage itself was clean and cozy. Our hosts gave great advice and left us scones!
Heidi, CA USA, Jul 2017
Rita and Franks place was very clean, and cozy. Our host had place directions everywhere explaining how to work everything from the windows, heater, and kitchen appliances. We had a Great stay.
Diana, CT USA, Jul 2017
Great little place, in a residential area but walking distance to heart of town. Got a nice feel for how the locals live:)
Danuta, PA USA, Jul 2017
Rita and Frank were so friendly and welcoming! The guest house was clean and so relaxing to come home to after a day of exploring. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is visiting the coast of Ireland near Cliffs of Moher.
Joanna, NY USA, Jul 2017
Rita & Frank are so lovely and accommodating. They're great communicators and helped us anytime we needed them. And the place is perfect: comfy beds, a great kitchen, easy parking, lovely flowers! The location can't be beat. Lisdoonvarna itself is wonderful, and it's a close, beautiful drive to innumerable fabulous locations: the Burren (and all that's inside it), the Cliffs of Moher, Fanore beach, etc etc. We will be back!
Katharine, MA USA, Jul 2017
Lovely place quick walk to restaurants and bars. Drive away from cliffs of moher would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay nearby!
Emma, WA USA, Jul 2017
It was just as described- super comfortable and as others mentioned- best water pressure we encountered on our travels! My family and I had a lovely time and Frank and Rita were always super quick to respond and flexible as we ended up having to check-in much later than originally anticipated. Due to our late arrival, we didn't have Rita's famous scones but Frank graciously made us a delicious traditional breakfast the next morning before we headed out. I wish we could have stayed for longer! It's a perfect base to explore the surrounding area (cliffs or Moher, the Burren, etc) and take in the scenery without rushing- I would definitely recommend staying at least two days if you are still deciding on an itinerary. And do checkout the Roadside Tavern to enjoy a trad session if you happen to stay on a weekend night!
Natalie, VA USA, Jul 2017
This guesthouse is a really nice place to stay. It's a cozy spot with a nice kitchen area and two comfy bed rooms. The local pubs are interesting hangouts and give you a great chance to meet the locals, listen to some lovely music, and get a tasty meal. Rita and Frank are very nice and were helpful in getting us set up and offering suggestions. Cute spot, I'd be happy to stay again.
Dan, PA USA, Jul 2017
Great spot. Lovely hosts.
Dustin, FL USA, Jul 2017
This small home had the best beds we slept in in Europe. Everything was well thought out and there were extras like butter and milk in the fridge that helped us settle in. The location is a bit out out of the way, but close to Doolin, Cliffs of Moher. A small city center is in walking distance with a grocery, several pubs, and a pharmacy. We enjoyed this rental very much.
Rene, KY USA, Jul 2017
Rita and Frank are real treasures, and their guesthouse is a lovely place to stay while exploring West Clare. Very easy access to Doolin, Lisdoonvarna, the Cliffs, etc. They are sensational hosts with great local knowledge and a real love of traditional music. The place is cozy and warm, with excellent info on all of the appliances, etc. And the delicious scones are a wonderful touch! Looking forward to our next stay.
Darin, PA USA, Jun 2017
Frank and Rita were lovely hosts! Fresh baked scones and a cup of tea upon arrival, a personal greeting and a neat-as-a-pin cottage!
Karen, NH USA, Jun 2017
Rita & Frank were absolutely lovely to deal with and so prompt in any communication. They were very friendly on our arrival and offered advice on eating and socializing and any other questions we had! The house was spotlessly clean, modern, the kitchen had everything you would need, towels and sheets smelled lovely and fresh! The location was really quiet yet walking distance to Lisdoonvarna town, perfect!
Ciara, Ireland, Jun 2017
Highly recommend. Place is clean, with comfortable beds, and a great location to both town and the cliffs. Very gracious hosts who even made us homemade scones!
Kasi, ID USA, Jun 2017
Rita and frank were so lovely and helpful. They gave great advice on what to do/see in doolin. Homemade scones greeted us, they were delicious. Highly recommend staying with them!
Courtney, CO USA, Jun 2017
This place is in a great location, walking distance to the cute town nearby with a grocery store, pubs and restaurants. Rita and Frank were so awesome, they made sure they did all they could to recommend places and even drove one person in our group with them to a folk festival going on in Doolin. Short drive into Doolin. Great place. We couldn't ask for better hosts. They had scones with butter and jam as well as coffee and tea with milk. Highly recommend!
Lindsey, CA USA, Jun 2017
We only stayed one night but it was fantastic! Apartment was clean, owners were helpful and friendly! Location was great!
Doug, LA USA, Jun 2017
If you're looking for a central location in the Burren region, and a launching pad for exploring the area, including Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher, this is it! Rita and Frank have created a very comfortable though small space, very clean and comfortably appointed. If you need a communal space (like a living room) in which to visit, this won't be for you - the guesthouse has a nice dining table for 4 but no other seating. But the beds are comfortable, the shower hot, and the kitchen suitable for basic meal prep/on the go eating. Our family of 4 was quite comfortable here, and Rita was a friendly host.
Karen, VA USA, Jun 2017
This place has the best showers and beds of any place we stayed in Ireland! The house was tiny, but more than sufficient for all of our needs. We had been traveling for over a week and my 9 year old became sick on the drive to town. This place helped him get back on his feet. Most places in Ireland do not have great water pressure or heat, but this place helped revive us! The linens smelled fresh and Rita could not have been a better host. We arrived to freshly baked scones! I wish we stayed here more than 1 night. You can walk into the town and hear local music. The cliffs are an easy drive from here. I will make sure my Irish relatives know about this place for when they travel.
Heather, CA USA, Jun 2017
This cottage is a great location near the cliffs and we could easily walk to two fantastic restaurants at the corner! Two of the best meals we had in Ireland! Wonderful scones and butter and milk and tea in our kitchen. Bedding was super comfy, the beds firm and bedding soft.
Terese, FL USA, Jun 2017

Bozhao Li, China, June 2017
Very cute place. Fresh scones waiting for us on arrival. Rita was great and answered all my questions.
Tracey Winter, TX USA, June 2017
The apartment would be nice for two people, possibly with children sleeping in a room without a window. You can only consider a short stay as there is no washing machine. It is necessary to bring your own food for breakfast.
Martine Lambert, Spain/France, May 2017
A small house located a few minutes walk from Lisdoonvarna and located 10km from the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin. Quiet neighborhood and neat house.

Angélique Pouch, France, May 2017
This is a lovely place to stay and Rita is a wonderful host. She provided great suggestions on where to eat and places to see. The home was clean and comfortable and I highly recommend it! Thank you very much for the fantastic hospitality. Your place is lovely and we couldn't be more grateful for everything provided...especially the homemade scones.
Denise Young, TX USA, May 2017
Nice place to stay will touring Ireland's countryside. Clean rooms, warm scones greeted us. Rita helped us procure dinner reservations at local hot spot, which otherwise would have been full by the time of our arrival. Overall comfortable airbnb.
LaDonna Frantz, IN USA, May 2017
Lovely spot near the cliffs of moher- very quick 10 minute drive away. Super easy arrival and had fresh baked scones waiting for us! Especially welcome after a windy damp cliff visit. The beds are amazingly comfortable and we walked to the local pub for dinner and a spot of music which Rita helped sort. Just to note - there's no lounge/reception room but the kitchen has a lovely big table and there's plenty of space for 4 in the house!
Sarah Noble, England, May 2017
It takes 10 minutes walk to the downtown main street. At the cross there is a Chinese restaurant.
Bing Yan, China, May 2017
Rita and Frank are some of the best people we have met on our journey! They are so sweet and so helpful. They gave us suggestions on places we should visit, and tips about the local area. The Cliffs of Morher are 15 minutes from the location. We even decided to go out with Rita and Frank one night, and enjoy trad music at a local pub. The house was clean, and they were well more than willing to accommodate any of our questions or needs. Great location just outside of Doolin in a beautiful small town.
Loa Chantelle Thomson, CA USA, May 2017
Rita and Frank are amazing hosts. The place is perfect for a stay in listoonvarna. It's a 5 minute walk from the centre of town, and is a lovely self contained apartment, separate from their house. Beds are amazing too.
Kieron Donohue, Ireland, April 2017
Rita & Frank were incredibly helpful with any questions I had. The place was spotless, lovely and warm and the beds very comfortable. Great location too as it was so close to Lisdoonvarna, Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher!

Great place Stayed with my family . Perfect location . Short drive to cliffs of moher and short walk for food and drinks in great pub . Accommodation was brilliant. Clean and comfortable. Lovely fresh scones on arrival. Will go back again
Liam Moran, Ireland, March 2017
Rita's place is everything you need after a long day touring around the area, it s only 20 min form the cliffs of moher and in a little town where you can find few gastropubs and a shop. Rita welcomed us upon arrival, showed us the house (which she had warmed up) and greeted us with delicious scones, jam, coffee, tea and milk. The house was clean, the beds comfortable and the linen smelled so fresh (something we have found rarely with airbnb). We would definitely go back when in the area. Very recommended! Kudos to Rita and Frank :)
Denise De Luca, Ireland/Germany/Italy, March 2017
Rita and Frank were the best hosts ever. They made sure we had everything we needed and were very accommodating. They also brought us to McGanns pub in Doolin and introduced us to all of the regulars. They had some amazing traditional music and made us feel as if we were one of the locals ourselves. The location was very close to the Cliffs of Moher, and is very close to the popular pubs of Doolin as well. Would absolutely stay here again, if you get the chance to know Rita and Frank you will not be disappointed!
Hannah Gavin, NH USA, January 2017
Two things stand out from this airbnb experience: the traditional Irish music at the Roadside Tavern, where my daughter got to join in with some accomplished local musicians and the trip to the Burren, where we saw some ancient archaeological sites, including a dolmen, fitting with my interests. Neither of these would have been possible without Frank and Rita's hospitality and local knowledge! The Rooska gatehouse is just as described. Good heating, comfortable beds, excellent kitchen, bathroom, etc (no living room). Bring your own cooking oil, condiments, shampoo. If not, the supermarket is a short walk down the road. Tea, coffee is supplied. Butter, jam and a batch of scones are additional special touches. A lovely place run by two lovely people!
Varsha, Melbourne, Australia, January 2017
Rita and Frank were warm and friendly and had a lovely gatehouse with fresh biscuits awaiting us and great recommendations for dinner! A wonderful couple and hosts!
Susanna, MN USA, December 2016
The place was so lovely, comfortable and clean. We felt right at home. We were given amazing recommendations for food/music in town and overall loved our stay. Thank you for everything! :-)
Melissa, UK, December 2016
Rita and Frank were very helpful and the communication was very easy with them. The place is simple yet cosy. The location is good for someone doing the the Cliffs and the Burren area! There were no pubs or restaurants in Lisdonvaarna open on St Stephen's day but Frank and Rita promptly advised us on where to go in Doolin. Overall, very good experience and would recommend staying with them!
Gonçalo, Ireland/Portugol, December 2016
Lovely cottage. Plenty of space and the bed was the most comfortable we stayed in our entire trip! The house was within walking distance to a lovely little pub, sadly during our trip (December-off season) it didn't have food, but we drove a few minutes into Doolin and found an awesome spot and listened to amazing music and had a delicious dinner! Neighborhood was quiet and parking was plentiful. Would certainly stay again!
Tatiana, NY USA, December 2016
Perfect place to sleep with easy accessibility to the cliffs. The kitchen was fully capable of cooking breakfast for 4. Very easy check in and easy to find. Would recommend this property.

Our stay was just perfect. Rita & Frank's Rooska Gatehouse is very comfy and you’ll find everything you need. The location is great to go to the Moher Cliffs. Rita is a very nice person, she cooked for us scones and Irish butter which were very nice attentions. We did not have the opportunity to meet Frank as he was in the USA, but I’m sure he is as nice as Rita who will do her best to help you! The Roadside Tavern she recommended to have dinner and have a drink is amazing. It is a traditional Irish pub – one of the best spots we discovered during our trip !
Magali Dubourdieu, France, August 2016
We loved our stay at Rita & Frank's Rooska Gatehouse. We were so warmly welcomed by Rita....she immediately made us feel right at home! The Gatehouse is beautifully appointed and meticulously clean. Allen Erenbaum, CA USA, July 2016
Rita and Frank were wonderful through the booking process and during our stay--very warm, accommodating, and quick to respond. The Gatehouse is inviting and clean, and was perfect for my parents and me to stay for the evening after our visit to the Cliffs of Moher. Rita had prepared scones for us upon our arrival, which was a very pleasant surprise. When you stay, be sure to take up their recommendation to hear the music at the Roadside Tavern--was one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend this place! Thanks, Frank and Rita!
Todd Clayton, NY USA, July 2016
What a great experience, a great welcome with milk in the fridge for the tea, Shur what else would you want after a long drive from Dublin. We were given the tour of the place then given the keys and left to enjoy our stay, even bumped into Rita in town over the wkend and she was kind enough to give us a dance. Couldn't recommend a stay here more, clean, tidy, everything you want laid out and only a quick stroll to the fun filled town of Lisdoonvarna.
Michael Hayes, Ireland, July 2016
Rita and Frank were there to greet us. The place was as advertised. Charming, clean, fresh scones, everything we needed. It was a great place to stay for seeing the Cliffs of Moher and the islands by boat and hiking. it is in the Burren landscape. So much to see and do with in 30 minutes or less. The Burren smokehouse and Roadside tavern are a fast walk for great food.
Amber Riddell, Germany/TN USA, July 2016
Frank and Rita were very accommodating and their place is as described. What I really liked about our stay is how easy it was to bond with local activities. We only had one night to stay at the Rooska Gatehouse, it was clean and the beds were really comfortable. Frank and Rita recommend the roadside tavern, the food was great and Frank and Rita joined us after dinner for music and drinks. Living like a local was very easy here, even with a heavy tourist trade it didn't feel like you are in a tourist trap. If you are going to go to the Cliff of Moher, or want to feel like you are off the beaten path, stay at Rooska, you cannot go wrong.
Matt LeMasters, IL USA, July 2016
Rita and Frank's place was fantastic! The place was great and they were very available and helpful with local suggestions. I would highly recommend staying with them!

Our stay at Rita and Frank's gatehouse was just perfect. They were so friendly and helpful and the place itself was clean and new! I was traveling with two elderly people and they went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for our visit. Rita phoned down to the Roadside Tavern and got us a table for dinner. We even got from row seats for the traditional music that started at 9:00. Our stay in Lisdoonvarna is one I will never forget. Thank you, Rita and Frank!

We spent a lovely night in Lisdoonvarna at Rita and Frank's guesthouse. The location was a pleasant walk from town and the excellent Roadhouse Tavern. Don't miss the Burren Smokehouse, too, for some delicious smoked salmon. It's an easy drive to the Cliffs of Moher, as well. We highly recommend this accommodation.

We were in Lisdoovarna for one night. Rita and Frank are wonderful hosts. Besides homemade scones as a welcome gift, a lovely and cosy furnished property, they were really interested in providing us an unforgetable stay. They gave us a lot of Information about the local area and the worth seeing places in the vicinity. The "Cliffs of Moher" are just a few minutes by car. The Roadside Tavern - just a short distance to walk - is a pub with traditional music where you get outstanding local food and can meet local people. We definitely will come back and can highly recommend this place to other guest!

To start, we were so lucky to have such a flexible check in time, especially while traveling through unfamiliar territory! Rita is so warm, inviting, and genuinely interested in her guests having a great time. The apartment is very clean, bed very comfortable, easy to cook a full meal. Walking distance (5 min) to a great local bar (Roadside Tavern). Would highly recommend staying here!

Rita was a wonderfully gracious host, welcoming us in from a stormy travel on the road. She gave us excellent information about the local area. Her newly refurbished apartment was very comfortable and provided a place for us to relax and refresh. We walked a short distance to the Roadside Tavern for an evening meal and traditional music. Delicious and fun! Lisdoovarna is a very easy stop from the road. The small village is charming and we enjoyed our too brief stay. We highly recommend Rita's place to other Airbnb guests.
